Rafah, Gaza – April 7, 2025 – The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is deepening as Israeli forces establish a new “security corridor” called the Morag Corridor, effectively isolating Rafah from the rest of the Gaza Strip. This development, coupled with an ongoing aid blockade, is raising alarm among international organizations and aid agencies.

According to Al Jazeera, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the Morag Corridor on April 6, 2025. The corridor’s establishment follows reports of intensified Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours that have killed at least 26 Palestinians, bringing the death toll since October 2023 to 50,695, according to the enclave’s health ministry. At least 113 others were reported injured, bringing the total wounded to 115,338.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has issued a stark warning about the devastating impact of the aid blockade on the children of Gaza. Since March 2, 2025, no aid has been allowed into Gaza, leading to critical shortages of food, safe water, shelter, and medical supplies. As a result, twenty-one malnutrition treatment centers have been forced to close since March 18, 2025. One million children are at dire risk of starvation and disease.

The newly established Morag Corridor is heightening concerns. Observers fear it will further restrict the movement of people and essential goods, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation in Rafah, where many displaced Palestinians have sought refuge. The Gaza Strip, a densely populated area on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, is home to a large population of Palestinian refugees. It has long been at the center of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, enduring repeated cycles of violence and instability.

The international community is watching closely as the situation unfolds, with many organizations calling for an immediate end to the violence and the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. The isolation of Rafah through the Morag Corridor threatens to push the region further into crisis, with potentially catastrophic consequences for its civilian population.
