The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has deepened as approximately 95% of aid organizations have suspended or completely halted their operations due to the relentless Israeli bombardment and blockade. This suspension leaves a population already struggling with shortages of food, water, and medical supplies in an even more dire situation.
Recent Bombardments and Casualties
The decision to suspend operations comes as Israeli forces continue deadly strikes across the Gaza Strip. Recent bombardments have resulted in a staggering number of casualties. Since Good Friday, Israeli bombardments have caused at least 92 deaths and 219 injuries, with children among the casualties. At least 52 people have been killed by Israeli attacks across Gaza since dawn on April 19, 2025. These strikes have targeted various locations, including the Nuseirat refugee camp where one person was killed in an Israeli airstrike, al-Ishrin Street in the Nuseirat refugee camp where two Palestinians were killed, and the town of Nassr, northeast of Rafah, where two women were killed in an Israeli drone strike. Furthermore, an Israeli bombing of a house in Khan Younis resulted in the death of three Palestinians.
Gaza Death Toll Surpasses 61,700
The Gaza Government Media Office reports the death toll has surpassed 61,700, including thousands missing under rubble presumed dead since the start of the conflict. This ongoing violence and instability have made it impossible for aid groups to operate safely and effectively.
Attacks Beyond Gaza
The situation is further complicated by attacks beyond Gaza. Over 170 individuals have been arrested in Pakistan for attacks on KFC outlets, a protest against Western brands due to the ongoing Gaza war. Additionally, there are rising tensions surrounding the Al-Aqsa Mosque, with the Palestinian government denouncing what it describes as incitement to destroy the mosque by settlers, calling on the international community to intervene.
Critical Conditions in Gaza
The halt in aid operations will undoubtedly exacerbate the already critical conditions in Gaza, leaving vulnerable populations even more at risk. The international community is facing increasing pressure to find a solution that ensures the safety of civilians and aid workers, allowing for the uninterrupted delivery of life-saving assistance.
