Gaza is facing a devastating humanitarian crisis as Israeli attacks continue to claim lives and obliterate families. Recent reports indicate a significant rise in the death toll, with at least 23 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza since yesterday. Air raids have targeted various areas, including northwest of Gaza City and northern Gaza Strip, resulting in numerous casualties.
Rising Casualties
Airstrikes on residential areas in Jabalia led to the deaths of 10 family members, while another strike in the same area killed eight members of another family. In Khan Younis, four bodies were recovered from a bombed house, and a girl and an infant died from injuries sustained in an attack on a tent.
More casualties have been reported following Israeli shelling of a home in the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza. Medics report at least 17 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks since the early hours of the morning, including 10 fatalities in the bombing of the Jabalia refugee camp. The Government Media Office in Gaza reports that over 2,180 Palestinian families have been “wiped out” in the Israeli military actions, with the father, mother, and all family members killed. Additionally, more than 5,070 additional Palestinian families have been obliterated, leaving only a single surviving member in each. Over 65% of the 52,243 people killed by Israel were women, children, and the elderly, including more than 18,000 children and more than 12,400 women.
ICJ Hearings and Ceasefire Talks
In the midst of this crisis, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is holding hearings regarding Israel’s obligations concerning the humanitarian situation in Gaza. A Palestinian envoy has accused Israel of using aid as a “weapon of war,” while an Israeli minister has condemned what he describes as the “delegitimization” of his country. Qatar has reported “a bit of progress” in the Israel-Hamas ceasefire talks, amidst a worsening food crisis in the Palestinian territory.
