Malaysia’s halal sector is experiencing a significant boom, with exports reaching RM61.79 billion (approximately $13 billion USD) in 2024, according to the Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). This represents a 15% increase from the RM53.72 billion recorded in 2023, highlighting the country’s growing dominance in the global halal market. The ministry projects that the halal industry’s contribution to Malaysia’s GDP will reach 10.8% (RM231 billion) by 2030. This growth is fueled by key sectors such as food and beverage, finance, and travel, all adhering to strict halal standards.
Malaysia has consistently maintained its leading position in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator rankings for ten consecutive years, solidifying its reputation as a global hub for halal products and services. The country’s strategic initiatives, coupled with increasing global demand for halal products, are driving this impressive export growth.
The Halal market is experiencing significant growth globally, driven by a rising Muslim population, increased awareness of halal standards, and a growing recognition of halal products’ ethical and quality attributes. Malaysia has been at the forefront of this growth. Matrade is implementing strategies to increase the country’s export value by 5% to RM1.58 trillion in 2025.
